The MARLII Cutaway

It was never about making a diamond brighter. Old cuts hold light rather than throwing it back, and set the ordinary way — over a solid gallery — a stone is lit from one direction only.

So we cut the metal away beneath it. Light enters through the pavilion as well as the table, and a quiet stone becomes visible rather than loud. Two things came back that we had not gone looking for: the setting sits lower, and it still takes a flush wedding band.
