Trunk Shows
What is a Trunk Show?
A Trunk Show is MARLII LAB’s travelling boutique experience. We privately host appointments in a beautiful hotel suite aligned with our aesthetic, allowing clients to explore our jewellery collection in person.
At each Trunk Show, we bring a curated selection of engagement rings, wedding rings, fine jewellery, and a wide range of loose diamonds and gemstones for you to explore. We also share examples of bespoke pieces so you can experience the MARLII LAB aesthetic up close.
All Trunk Show appointments are private and by appointment only. Each appointment runs for approximately 60 to 90 minutes, giving you dedicated one-on-one time with our Founder, Creative Director and Designer to discuss your ideas, inspirations, and dream piece in a calm and personal setting.
We also offer an optional complimentary high tea for you to enjoy on your own or with a loved one during your appointment.
Why only Trunk Shows?
MARLII LAB was founded in Adelaide, Australia, where we originally opened a boutique space in the heart of the CBD. As our clientele grew across Australia and internationally, Trunk Shows became an important part of how we built meaningful relationships with clients in person.
As a result, we chose to focus on travelling to the cities where many of our clients live, rather than operating a permanent public boutique. Personal connection is at the heart of MARLII LAB, and Trunk Shows allow us to meet as many of our clients face-to-face as possible while offering a private, luxury experience.
Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
Absolutely, you are welcome to bring your partner, a friend, or a family member. We kindly ask that you limit your guests to no more than two people. Please let us know in your booking form so we can prepare for your visit accordingly.
What happens during my appointment?
During your appointment, you will sit down privately with our team in a relaxed and personal setting. We will get to know one another while discussing your ideas, inspirations, and the styles you are drawn to.
With the guidance of our Founder, Creative Director or Designer, we will explore your vision in detail and discuss the design possibilities for your piece. We will also talk you through timelines, our sourcing practices, and the process involved in bringing your piece to life.
Our Trunk Show appointments are designed to feel informative, inspiring, and pressure-free.
Do you take payment during Trunk Show appointments?
No, we do not take payment during Trunk Show appointments. This allows you the time and space to explore, ask questions, and get to know our brand and team without pressure.
If you decide to proceed after your appointment, payment can be arranged securely afterward.
What happens after my appointment?
After your appointment, we prepare the next stage of your design journey based on everything discussed. Depending on your piece, this may include design artwork, stone options, and hyper-realistic renders.
Once your design has been finalised and approved, we will provide your quotation. After you have selected your preferred option and payment has been received, we begin the early stages of production.
We keep you updated throughout the process and maintain open communication every step of the way, no matter where you are in the world.

Manufacturing, Diamonds & Gemstones
Where will my piece be made?
Your piece will be handcrafted in either Australia or the United Kingdom, depending on your location, timeline, and the design of your piece.
For Australian clients, we work with workshops in Sydney and Adelaide. For clients in the United Kingdom and Europe, we work with a workshop in London. For clients in other regions, we select the workshop best suited to your timeline and project requirements.
What are our pieces made from?
We primarily work with responsibly sourced 14K and 18K gold, as well as platinum. We can also offer 9K gold by request.
What is responsibly sourced gold?
At MARLII LAB, we exclusively use gold from suppliers certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). This ensures that our gold is sourced ethically, without contributing to environmental harm or supporting exploitative practices such as slave labor.
What is the difference between 9K Gold, 14K Gold, 18K Gold, Rose Gold?
9K gold contains 37.5% pure gold and a higher proportion of alloy metals, making it durable but more likely to react with sensitive skin in some cases.
14K gold contains 58.3% pure gold and offers an excellent balance of durability, colour, and fine quality. For this reason, it is often our preferred choice for fine jewellery.
18K gold contains 75% pure gold and is our preferred choice for bridal and engagement pieces. It has a richer colour, greater intrinsic gold content, and a more luxurious feel.
For Rose Gold, we offer this in 18K and use a very specific variant names 5N Rose Gold. 5N Rose Gold has a greater proportion of yellow gold to copper, resulting in a much warmer hue, unlike many traditional rose golds which taken a very red hue, given their higher content of copper.
If you are unsure which option is right for you, we will guide you based on your design, lifestyle, and preferences.
How are lab-grown gemstones made, is the process different to how lab-grown diamonds are created?
Yes, the processes are different.
Lab-grown gemstones can be created through various methods. At MARLII LAB, we use the Hydrothermal method (a type of High-Pressure High-Temperature, or HPHT, process) for our gemstones. This method allows for the organic formation of small inclusions, giving the stones a natural appearance.
For lab-grown diamonds, we use the Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) method. CVD involves heating a carbon-rich gas to around 800°C to create plasma, which produces pure carbon molecules. These molecules form a crystal structure, resulting in a Type 2A diamond—known for being free from impurities and fluorescence. This process is more sustainable and energy-efficient compared to traditional methods.
If you would like to learn more about the specific stones we offer, our team will be happy to guide you.
What is diamond fluorescence?
Diamond fluorescence refers to the visible light some diamonds emit when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light. This phenomenon occurs in approximately 25-30% of diamonds, typically giving off a blue glow. While it has minimal impact on a diamond’s appearance in normal lighting, fluorescence can affect the diamond’s transparency and perceived value in rare cases.
At MARLII LAB, our lab-grown diamonds are Type 2A, meaning they are completely free of fluorescence.
We are happy to discuss fluorescence and any other diamond characteristics with you during your appointment.
Where do you source your lab-grown diamonds and lab-grown gemstones?
At MARLII LAB, we have access to diamond and gemstone suppliers who specialise in lab-grown stones. We work predominantly with a laboratory in Belgium who focus on the sustainable production of lab-grown diamond and gemstones, within an emission free environments.
MARLII LAB’s lab grown diamonds are produced using a more sustainable process, the Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) method. Unlike the traditional high pressure, high temperature (HPHT) method, CVD uses vacuum chambers and less energy to convert carbon-heavy gasses into plasma. This process results in a cleaner, square-shaped rough diamond as the carbon atoms build on top of the diamond seed in a single vertical direction. The CVD method is also more economical, making MARLII LAB’s lab-grown diamonds an excellent choice for those who value sustainability and affordability.
What is a zero-emission laboratory?
A zero-emission laboratory is a production facility designed to minimise environmental impact. These facilities recycle emissions into renewable energy, reducing their carbon footprint. This approach ensures that the cultivation of our diamonds and gemstones is as sustainable as possible.
If you would like more information about the suppliers we work with and our sourcing approach, our team will be happy to discuss this with you.
How can you tell the difference between a mined diamond and lab-grown diamond?
To the naked eye, there is no visible difference between a mined and a lab-grown diamond. Advanced gemological equipment is required to distinguish between the two, as they share the same essential physical and chemical properties.
Can you explain the recent changes in your pricing?
Due to significant increases in the global price of gold, we have made the difficult decision to adjust our pricing. We have kept these increases as considered as possible and have absorbed part of the cost ourselves.
We sincerely appreciate your continued support and understanding.
Are your diamonds and precious stones genuine and ethically sourced?
Yes. All of our diamonds and precious stones are carefully sourced through trusted and established suppliers. For diamonds, we work with accredited partners who align with our standards for quality and responsible sourcing.
